Hikers Rescued by Helicopter Crew After Declared Missing

Emergency - Emergency Services

A group of hikers was rescued after being declared missing by the local police in Gallatin County. The police had received a call from a hiker who had informed them that he was with a group of 3 when they got separated after getting lost in the mountain. The hiker then told the police that the two other hikers had a considerate amount of food, water, camping gear, and fresh clothes that they would be able to hold out on their own for 2 days or so if there was no help to come. The police in Gallatin County had sent out a police helicopter to look for the 2 missing hikers and found them that same evening while the two hikers were going down a trail. The helicopter swooped down to the ground near the two hikers and had addressed them, and the police officers who had rescued them had remarked that the two hikers seem to be healthy and weren’t in any type of stress or distress at all and seemed very calm and aware of their environment.

In light of this event, the sheriff of the local police station had strongly recommended hikers to always take an extra piece of food, water, camping gear, and clothes with them because there is always a possibility that you can get lost. Even though you got lost and it may be a while before a helicopter may find you or police officers may find you, you will at least have an extra portion of food and water to keep you hydrated and remove your hunger, as well as camping gear to sleep in if it is night, you will also have extra fresh clothes that will help you if you get wet or mud on them. It is also strongly recommended to bring a map with you and always tell someone at home that you are going out hiking and when you should expect to come back. This way, that other person will have some type of idea when you should be back and worry.
