In 1955, the Hughes Tool Company designed a prototype of the Model 269. Its first flight took place in October of 1956. Hughes, later known as Hughes Helicopters, introduced a slightly larger version of the 269. This model is marketed as Hughes 300.

In 1986, Schweizer purchased all rights to the helicopter. The basic design has remained the same over the years, although, there have been numerous minor improvements. Ultimately, there are nearly 3,000 units of either Model 269 & 300. The Schweizer 300 is a popular aircraft in today’s helicopter industry.

Today’s Schweizer 300

The Model 300 series is employed in 9 different militaries around the world. Additionally, law enforcement agencies use these helicopters because they are fairly low cost to operate and easy to maintenance. The Schweizer 300 is used in many aerial application operations. However, the three-blade design offers the most cost-effective equipment for agricultural work. From light utility work to aerial spraying, the Schweizer 300 is a versatile helicopter that offers efficiency on all fronts.
