On Monday, El Dorado authorities conducted a rescue operation of a man who had been swept down the South Fork of the American River. According to reports released by the California Highway Patrol, the elderly man fell in the river and was swept down close to Peavine Ridge in the Pollock Pines area.
Even though the man was able to swim back to the shore, the area could not be accessed from anywhere. He was trapped and he had no way of getting himself to safety.
While the victim was in dire need of emergency medical attention, the rescue team could not find any viable option of pulling him out of the water. This scenario prompted them to seek the help of a CHP helicopter, which was called to the scene.
Both the helicopter crew and rescue swimmers from the El Dorado County Fire Department worked hand-in-hand to bring the man to safety. The ground rescue team coordinated the effort as the man was being hoisted into the helicopter and everything went in accordance to plan.
The helicopter hoisted and flew the man a few distances away and lowered him to a point where an ambulance could pick him. CHP helicopters have always been used in many rescue operations not only in California but also in other parts of the United States.
Reports on the man’s current status are yet to be revealed and the identity of the man is still unknown. Though, thanks to the quick response of the El Dorado County Fire Department, another life in peril was saved.
