On December 13, 2020, a Hanukkah Hero descended from a helicopter and landed at Bevelhymer Park, New Albany, OH. The Hero performed and lit the event with various acts resulting in the 2020 Hanukkah celebrations’ success. However, due to strict COVID-19 restrictions, the event was held outside, with some attendees watching while in their vehicles. Despite the Hanukkah festival being unique this year, those in attendance showed their excitement through honking.
On his arrival, the helicopter approached Bevelhymer Park and landed carefully at a safe distance from the parking lot where viewers awaited. The Hanukkah Hero emerged from the helicopter dressed in traditional attire like those worn by Judas at the time. A red carpet was rolled in honor of the Hero, referred to as Judas Maccabeus. His appearance graced the occasion, with viewers getting excited with his arrival and performance. The helicopter then flew away to the port, leaving the crowd puzzled by Judas’ appearance.
Judas Maccabeus is the Hanukkah Hero, a Jewish guerilla leader who defended his country against invasion by the Seleucid King Antiochus. Besides, he prevented the imposition of Hellenism in Judaea and sequentially defending the Jewish religion. During his time, he was recognized as one of the faith protectors, hence gaining popularity among the Jewish community. The event is thus celebrated annually to honor Judas, and this year was no different.
