OGDEN, Utah – Most recently, on Tuesday, two hikers were rescued and transported to emergency crews after they got stuck in a tricky situation in the Beus Canyon area, a two-mile hike compromised of steep and difficult to climb segments east of Ogden.
According to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, who were the first at the scene, the department received a 911 distress call from two grounded climbers in the Beus Canyon area.
The hikers claimed they got lost after going off-trail finding themselves stuck on the steeper sides of the canyon.
Search and rescue immediately responded by sending a state-of-the-art drone and two climb teams in the Beus Canyon Trailhead. Luckily, the drone was able to locate the hikers who were near the peak of the canyon.
After carefully navigating their way up to the stranded hikers, the team finally reached them and warmed them up. During this time of the year, temperatures are usually very low in the Beus Canyon area. And although the rescue team arrived in near-record time, the hikers showed signs of mild hypothermia. For this reason, the two were hoisted to the trailhead using the Department of Public Safety helicopter.
Upon arrival, the two hikers received treatment from Ogden Fire Department, warmed up, and then released with slight injuries. Authorities later added that the two were only safe because they had proper gear the only problem came when they found themselves in a difficult-to-hike area, and hence the call for help.
Hiking experts recommend that hikers should carry all the right equipment before any hiking expedition. Emergency Helicopter Services might not always be available, so it’s best to go prepared.
