One month after California investigators pick up critical evidence from a Pacific Gas and Electric Company [PG&E] power pole believed to be the cause of the Zogg fire, the power distribution company hired a helicopter to haul the pole to a safe zone. That happened in the concert of prosecutors, investigators, and eyewitnesses.
No one ordered the company to allegedly tamper with the evidence. According to PG&E’s spokesperson, the company contracted a helicopter to haul the poles, wires, and trees out of an abundance of caution. Still, the company was reluctant to reveal the contracting, which they entered with a third-party air-transportation company to collect the piece of evidence along Zogg Mine Rd.
The troubles at PG&E began after investigators probed the company over its equipment that is deemed to have caused the fire that killed four people and flattened over 56,000 acres in Shasta County in Northern California.
After the fire, The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection began a wildfire probe and zeroed its investigation to the utility company. PG&E confirmed that Cal Fire took some of the company’s pieces of equipment to try and find the cause of the fire.
Winds blowing over the area Sierra Nevada Mountains, where the fire started, were blowing at an excess of 30mph. Despite that, the Pacific Gas and Electrical Company did not shut off the area’s power supply. Matt Nauman said that the company only shut off the power on the other side of the county, and did not consider doing the same for the zone near Zogg Min Rd.
Although power was still on when the deadly Zogg fire started in Igo, Shasta County, little is known about what caused it. The public still waits for investigators to finalize their reports, according to Cali Fire.
