On December 5, 2020, the new Climate Pledge Arena at Seattle Center got its signs installed dramatically in broad daylight. The process involved a helicopter airlifting the four signs and placing them over the historic new arena. On the ground, a crowd gathered to witness the official crowning of the new Climate Pledge Arena. Most of those in attendance captured the enthralling moment and were amazed by the entire crowning process.

The new Climate Pledge Arena will open in June 2021 and become the home for the Seattle Kraken—the city’s new hockey team, and the Seattle Storm, four-time WNBA champions. The redevelopment of the arena will increase its sitting capacity, with ice hockey seeing an attendance of 17,400 while basketball housing 18,600 fans. Though the new arena is months away from its official opening, the signs’ mounting suggests the renovation plans are timely. Amazon acquired the naming rights for the arena several months ago, enabling the new arena to become among the city’s first social entertainment venues.

According to Rosie Selle, the Vice President of Marketing at the Climate Pledge Arena, the four signs provide a full representation of its carbon footprint goals. Besides, it helps in promoting its commitment to the climate pledge. Hockey organizers, including players and fans, are looking forward to the arena’s official opening as it brings hockey excitement to Seattle City.

Located in Seattle, Washington, the new Climate Arena was previously branded KeyArena at Seattle Center until 2018 when it closed down. The arena has since undergone various changes, including multiple extensions, increasing its sitting capacity. Various sporting events hosted will make the new arena suitable for multiple events. Sitting north of downtown in a 74-acre land, the new arena remains an entertainment complex that will seem both hockey and basketball games in the city thrive in the coming years.
