There are few situations in which the use of Heavy-duty Helicopter Lift Services becomes more useful than when it comes to replacing machinery weighing thousands of pounds in the middle of rugged terrain.
This is especially the case when your drop-off and pick-up site happens to be the middle of a rural lake whose shoreline is almost entirely inaccessible to large land transport vehicles of the kind that can deliver multi-ton loads. This is exactly where the services of Fair Lifts Helicopter transport services came into the picture.
In a recent project, the company was hired to not only remove an old barge and pump combination that was no longer suitable for the site in question, it also then had to air-lift a new barge and pump that weighed one third more than the original and precisely place it for installation and connection to an existing pipeline.
The total transport distance for this job consisted of two possible options: in the first, the new pump could be delivered to a nearby airport, located 3.5 miles from the site of the lake, from which the Fair Lifts helicopter could then carry it to its destination in the water. In the second, the new pump could be delivered by road to an accessible loading site just under 700 feet from the center of the small lake for a rapid lift and placement into the water. The old pump, which had to first be removed, could also be dropped off at either of these two possible locations with the same helicopter.
In the case of this project, option two, 695 feet from the lakeshore, was chosen and as soon as the old barge and pump were disconnected, the company’s professionally experienced pilot was able to first lift the entire apparatus out, carry it to its drop-off point from which it could be removed by truck, and then pick up and carefully haul the new barge and pump combination to the site in the lake where the previous one had been hooked up to its pipeline.
What makes both of these tasks especially noteworthy are the sizes and weights of the machinery involved. The old flood basin barge and pump weighed 4,000 lbs and measured out at 8′ x 21′ in its dimensions. The new barge and pump apparatus was even heavier at 6,600 lbs and with similar dimensions of 11 ½ ‘ x 16’. Both of these large, heavy, and expensive barge/pump combinations were successfully transported without accidents or setbacks.
Heavy-duty Helicopter Heavy Lift Services regularly handles complex, difficult transportation projects even over some of the most rugged terrain possible for corporate clients, emergency services, and private transport needs.
