United States Senate Committee Criticized the Federal Aviation Administration

In December 2020, the United States senate committee (on commerce, science & transportation) released a report that criticized the actions of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) concerning Novictor Helicopters. Apparently, the managers of the FAA allowed Novictor Helicopters to disregard policies and rules while at Hawaii’s Honolulu Flight Standards District Office (FSDO).

The report, whose content is about the aforementioned safety oversight, finds the FAA guilty of continuously failing to support whistleblowers despite that their actions could largely help to guarantee the safety of passengers. The document garnered massive attention. This is also because it had shocking details about how the FAA and Boeing 737 MAX had no qualms about hiding vital information regarding the tragic 737 MAX occurrences.

According to the report, these were not the only times that the FAA ignored safety measures without thinking about the well-being of passengers, or the consequences of their actions. Some whistleblowers revealed that the administration misused its Aviation Safety Action Program and facilitated the inadequate training of personnel who were still awarded certificates.

As per the United States senate committee report, the FAA’s reckless actions have led to several tragedies that could have been avoided if only the managers had taken whistleblowers’ warnings seriously. One of the administration’s employees, Joseph Monfort, was not afraid to be revealed as one of the whistleblowers. He disclosed that some of the high-ranking officials who work in the Honolulu FSDO have a very inappropriate and close relationship with employees at Novictor Aviation.

Monfort further added that this is not the first time the FAA is ignoring such misconduct, and it has resulted in three tragedies since September 2018.
