New Season Air Comfort Partners with Fair Lifts for Innovative Helicopter HVAC Installation

Fair Lifts Projects

The clock was ticking for New Season Air Comfort‘s HVAC replacement at a Dallas high-rise. With limited ground access and five heavy rooftop units needing replacement, conventional methods would have caused weeklong disruptions. Enter Fair Lifts and the Robinson R66 helicopter solution. On July 15, 2025, the agile turbine aircraft completed all lifts at 3030 Hester Avenue in record time, demonstrating how aerial precision solves urban mechanical challenges.

Project Scope: Five RTU Replacements with Curb Adapters

The project required removing five outdated rooftop HVAC units and replacing them with five new units, each weighing around 588 pounds. Curb adapters were installed to ensure proper airflow and sealing. A total of ten aerial lifts were performed five for removal and five for installation.

Given the building’s height and layout, a traditional crane lift would have necessitated multiple street closures and permits, extending the project over a week. Instead, the helicopter method completed the job in under an hour.

Project Location and Access Challenges

The site at 3030 Hester Avenue in Dallas was in a densely packed urban area with limited space. The staging area was a narrow adjacent street, making crane access impractical and disruptive.

To minimize impact, the lift was scheduled for early Sunday morning when nearby businesses were closed or opening later. This tight window demanded maximum efficiency and minimal disturbance.

Public Safety and Airspace Coordination

Fair Lifts worked closely with the Dallas Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department to secure the site and restrict access. Nearly three weeks of planning and coordination were required.

FAA approval was another challenge due to the location’s dense population and nearby commercial airspace. Fair Lifts provided detailed flight logistics, and FAA auditors monitored the operation in person before granting full approval.

The Robinson R66, a turbine powered utility helicopter, was selected for its agility, lifting capacity, and compact size. With a 1,200 pound external load limit, it is ideal for urban HVAC lifts.

The R66’s quick turnaround between lifts allowed all ten operations to finish in under an hour, far faster than a crane could achieve.

Benefits Over Crane Operations

The Robinson R66 helicopter HVAC lift offered key advantages:

  • Faster project completion: Entire operation finished in under one hour
  • No extended road closures: Avoided weeklong disruptions from crane use
  • Smaller footprint: Minimal ground space needed
  • Regulatory compliance: Full coordination with FAA and local agencies
  • Improved tenant experience: Minimal disturbance for residents

This method reduced noise, traffic disruptions, and visual impact, crucial for occupied residential buildings.
