Turkey announced it will start mass production of turboshaft helicopters engines, which will help them cut import bills by $60M. A senior government official announced on Saturday and expressed his joy that the country is expected to save on annual hi-tech imports.
According to Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank, the county was witnessing new dawn in the Turkish defense industry. He made the remarks in the ceremony of launching the turboshaft helicopters engines delivery facility and design center of TUSAS Engine Industries (TEI). The facility will be located in the country’s central province of Eskişehir.
The first beneficiary of the engines will be the T625 Gokbey, which is Turkey’s first multirole helicopter. This a six-ton new-generation chopper with a twin-engine, with a rapidly expanding market.
In a statement released to the press, Varank postulated that the country had was achieving its goals through the integration of technology and advanced design skills. He continued to explain that through the good work done by National Technology Move, the first functional engine was developed and designed wholly by a team of highly qualified engineers and technicians in only three years.
By insisting that turkey was among seven countries that had made advancements in turbine engine technology, he believed that a new design center that would locally make engines would mark a genesis of the country’s new success stories.
Varank continued to explain currently the per-kilogram value of the overall country’s export stood at $1.50, whereas the defense industry figure was over a staggering $50.
And with confidence, he assured the citizens that the first national helicopter engine, the TS1400, would hit an export value of $6,000 per kilogram.
As the ceremony came to an end, the engine test was completed and it was clear it produced 1,660 horsepower.
This marked a success for a project that started back in 2017.
