On 17th December, the Kirtland Air Force Base received a new HH-60W ‘Jolly Green II’, an advanced combat search and rescue (CSAR) aircraft. Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. takes pride in it as one of its best creations. The helicopter’s name was inspired by the HH-53 ‘Super Jolly Green’ and HH-3E ‘Jolly Green’ which were pretty useful in the Vietnam era, with their crews making the most out of them in the first CSAR mission.
This HH-60W helicopter from Lockheed will play an important role in rescuing lost personnel during various CSAR operations that will take place during the day and at night. On top of that, it will be used in assisting people, for humanitarian purposes, moving patients to help them receive the medical help they need and responding to disasters.
Hopefully, the HH-60W ‘Jolly Green II’ will be also handy in training the aircrew members of the air force. One of the reasons it is perfect for the job is it is super-advanced, and it boasts a plethora of incredible features. These include cybersecurity, hover performance, quality avionics, weapons, cooling, and vulnerability reduction, and enhanced defensive systems.
With the HH-60W, one thing is for sure: CSAR missions by the 58th Special Operations Wing will now be more successful. Crew members’ chances of surviving while on the field are indisputably higher. Additionally, these airmen will be confident when prepping and executing CSAR operations.
