Matthias Greene, New York Army National Guard Lt. Col. is now in charge of the 142nd Assault ` (3rd Battalion). The latter comprises a unit in Colonie’s Albany International Airport at the Aviation Support Facility. With his skills and experience, there is no doubt that Greene is the perfect and most qualified individual to hold his current position.
Greene is a veteran of both the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. He was the leader of one of Iraq’s Air Cavalry Platoon, and served together with that unit twice; one of the times being in 2006-2007. He was in Afghanistan in 2009-2010 where he was in charge of a popular Wyoming Army National Guard Medical Evacuation organization. Before assuming command of the assault helicopter regiment, he was working in Washington, D.C, at the National Guard Bureau Headquarters.
That is not all. Green has over 2,000 flight hours, being a trained and experienced UH-60 and OH-58D helicopter pilot. While building his successful career, he has worked efficiently as a personnel officer, airspace management officer, executive officer, and assistant operations officer. On top of that, he has received numerous awards for being exceptional at his job. Examples include the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Master Army Aviator Badge, the Air Medal, the Bronze Star, and the Parachutist Badge.
Green, who is a Massachusetts native, has also been to the Newport Naval War College to receive advanced military training. With his new job position, he is replacing Lt. Col. Jason Lefton who is proceeding to become an aviation officer at the New York Army National Guard. Lefton had been in charge of the helicopter regiment since 2017. Just like Green, he has spent a considerable part of his life working on his career. Lefton has worked as a Field Artillery Officer, a helicopter pilot, and served in Iraq, Bosnia, Kuwait, and Herzegovina.
